AudioNow (audionow.app) lets you stream live audio from your browser. This page explains which data is processed when you use it. We keep this to the minimum the service needs to work.
Live audio and rooms
- Audio you broadcast is sent to our server and passed on to listeners in real time. It is held in the server's memory for at most about 15 seconds so listeners can buffer it. It is never recorded, written to disk or made available for replay.
- A room's name and code are visible to anyone who has the code. Rooms exist only in the server's memory and are deleted when the host ends them, or 30 minutes after the host's device last checked in. After a room ends, its code (not its content) is remembered for 6 hours so it is not handed out again.
- To count listeners, each listening browser sends a random ID that is new every time a room page is opened. It is kept in memory for about 12 seconds after the last request.
Data stored on your device
- If you create a room, your browser stores the room code, its name and a secret host key in its local storage for up to 7 days, so you keep control of the room after reloading the page. Nothing is stored when you only listen.
- AudioNow does not use cookies.
Visitor statistics
We measure how the site is used with our own statistics script, hosted on our own webspace.
- It sets no cookies and uses no local storage or similar storage on your device.
- Your IP address is not stored. It is only used, together with your browser's user-agent string, the current date and a secret key, to compute a pseudonymous visitor ID (a one-way hash). The ID changes every day, so visits on different days cannot be linked.
- There is no cross-site tracking. The statistics only cover audionow.app.
- No country or other location data is collected.
- For each page view or interaction we record: the time, the page address (path and query string), the referring page, screen size, browser language, the user-agent string, the pseudonymous visitor ID and, for interactions, the event name and details.
- The data is not passed on to third parties or to any analytics provider.
- The raw data is kept on our webspace for at most 14 days and then deleted automatically.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used and improving it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Hosting and security
- The site is hosted by Hostinger. Its servers and content delivery network process technical connection data such as your IP address in order to deliver the site and protect it against attacks.
- To prevent abuse, our server counts how many rooms each IP address creates. This count is kept in memory for at most 10 minutes and never written to disk.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Because the statistics only contain daily-changing pseudonymous IDs and no IP addresses, we usually cannot link them to you.
